Cyclist killed in hit and run

Windsor police are looking for witnesses after a cyclist involved in a hit and run Friday night succumbed to his injuries.

Police were called to Wyandotte Street West near Crawford Avenue around 11:45 p.m. It was reported that the driver of a red 2014 Chevrolet Sonic struck a cyclist and continued driving down Janette Avenue.

The cyclist, an adult man, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police got a description of the driver and an arrest was made on Mill Street around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. A suspect was arrested without incident and his vehicle was seized.

Later on Saturday, the cyclist passed away from his injuries sustained in the collision.

Investigators are asking anyone in the area of Wyandotte Street West between Crawford Avenue and Janette Avenue, in the area southbound on Janette Avenue from Wyandotte Street West, and in the area of Mill Street, with a surveillance camera to check their footage for possible evidence.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
