Increased drug activity prompts alert in Windsor-Essex

The region's opioid overdose surveillance system noted above-average activity over the last week.

Between March 28 and April 3, there were nine opioid overdoses reported by local hospitals. Six involved fentanyl and three involved other substances.

During the same time period, there were 14 substance use-related calls to EMS, above the weekly average so far in 2022.

The Windsor Essex County Opioid and Substance Strategy system issues a public alert whenever above-average activity is detected.

Partners involved, including the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, Windsor Regional Hospital, Essex Windsor EMS, Erie Shores Healthcare, and police services, continue to monitor this increase and are working to understand more about these reported cases.
