More than 500 COVID-19 cases reported over long-weekend

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 508 new high-risk COVID-19 cases over the last five days.

There were 166 new cases identified on April 15, 140 on April 16, 91 on April 17, 67 on April 18, and 44 on April 19.

Many of the cases have already recovered and there are currently 333 active cases.

Local hospitals are treating 59 patients who have tested positive for the virus. There are three people with COVID-19 admitted to the intensive care unit.

The health unit is also monitoring 25 active outbreaks in the community. There are outbreaks at 14 long-term care or retirement homes, five hospital units, and six community congregate settings.

There were no new deaths associated with the virus reported over the last five days.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
