Province kicks in funding to expand Northwood Public School

The province is giving the Greater Essex County District School Board $4.9-million to add another eight classrooms to Northwood Public School.

The project is one of 37 at schools and child care centres across Ontario recently announced by Education Minister Stephen Lecce. Nearly $500-million will create 1,500 new licensed childcare spaces and 15,700 spaces for students.

With the new classrooms, Northwood will have room for another 184 students.

"We believe that students deserve to learn in-person in state-of-the-art facilities that are internet-connected, accessible, with modern ventilation systems," said Lecce.

Director of Education Erin Kelly is pleased with the funding saying, "this investment is as appreciated as it is necessary."

The Ontario government has pledged $1.4-billion to renew and maintain existing schools.
