Eminem, Dolly Parton, Judas Priest inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Detroit-based Eminem is now a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee.

The 15-time Grammy Award winner is only the second rapper to be inducted while alive after Jay Z last year. He will be inducted the first year he is eligible for the honour.

President and CEO Greg Harris announced the inductees Wednesday morning.

Eminem joins six other artists in the performers' category. Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, Pat Benatar, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon will also be officially inducted during a ceremony in Los Angeles in November.

In addition to the Grammy honours, Eminem has also won 17 Billboard Music Awards and an Oscar for his performance in the 2002 film 8 Mile, based on his early life in Detroit.

Harris also announced Judas Priest, Sylvia Robinson, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and Allen Grubman in the musical excellence category.

Harry Belafonte and Elizabeth Cotten are honourees in the early influence category.

More than 1,000 people voted for the nominees in February.
