WECHU warns of the dangers of hot, humid days

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is reminding residents about the dangers of the heat.

The temperature on Friday is forecast to reach 31 C but could feel more like 39 C with the humidity.  This does not reach heat warning criteria as the hot and humid weather is not expected to last.

However, Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Shanker Nesathurai issued a special weather statement because this is the first very warm and humid weather of the season.

Warning signs of heat-related illness include dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting, weakness, and confusion. If you experience any of these symptoms seek immediate medical attention.

The health unit advises people can prevent heat-related illnesses by drinking plenty of water, taking a cool bath or shower, and limiting outdoor activities to the coolest part of the day.

The temperature is expected to return to seasonal by Sunday.
