Commercial alcohol blitz comes out perfect

An enforcement operation in Windsor-Essex came up zero for Ontario Provincial Police.

The zero was the number of commercial truck drivers who tested above the legal threshold for driving under the influence of drug or alcohol, as the OPP conducted a motor vehicle blitz across Essex County on Tuesday.

Officers conducted 332 alcohol enforcement tests throughout the day and at various locations. The results were 100 per cent compliance, and not one driver had a result over the required zero.

The blitz was a mandatory condition for commercial drivers on Ontario highways. The operation was conducted by Essex County OPP officers, the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team (TIME), and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO).

The MTO conducted a vehicle inspection of its own during the blitz. Four commercial trucks were taken off the road, and one was impounded for being unsafe.

The OPP reminds drivers that if they suspect another driver is operating while impaired, they should call 911 immediately and provide as much information as possible.
