First Environment Canada and now the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit warn residents about extreme heat on Monday and Tuesday.
The health unit issued its first heat warning of the season on Monday morning as temperatures began to rise.
A heat warning is issued when at least the region experiences at least two consecutive days of daytime highs reaching a minimum of 30 Celcius, overnight lows are greater than 21 Celcius, or the humidex gets up to 42 Celcius.
Environment Canada's heat warning remains in effect until Wednesday when cooler air moves into the region. The federal agency warns warm and humid air could impact the air quality.
The health unit recommends limiting outdoor activities to the coolest part of the day, drinking plenty of water even if you don't feel thirsty, wearing light-coloured and loose-fitting clothing, and taking a cool bath or shower.
The risks of heat-related illness are highest for young children, pregnant women, those suffering chronic conditions, and the elderly. Both agencies suggest keeping an eye on family members, neighbours and friends during the heatwave.
