Young teens arrested after weapon incident at youth dance

The Ontario Provincial Police has arrested two 13-year-olds and seized an airsoft gun after an incident at a grade school dance last month in Essex.

Officers were called to the Essex Sports Complex just after 9 p.m. on May 13 after police received a call someone had brought a weapon to the dance.

Police identified two suspects who can not be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The two will have to participate in the Pre-Charge Diversion Program, designed to hold young people accountable.

No one was hurt during the incident, but police ask anyone who has information to call them at 1-888-310-1122. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave an anonymous message online.
