Charges brought for assault against a Leamington man

A 48-year-old man is facing multiple charges after an incident during which someone was attacked with a cane.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call to a home on Erie Street South at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Officers were told that the suspect showed up at the house, caused some damage, then assaulted the homeowner with a cane.

A suspect was discovered by officers a short distance away on Robinson Street. According to OPP Constable Steven Duguay, the man turned his anger on the officers before being restrained and taken into custody.

The Leamington resident has been charged with assault with a weapon, mischief, failure to comply with a probation order, and resisting arrest.

The man was being held for a bail hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
