Amherstburg's latest CAO leaves

The Town of Amherstburg needs a new Chief Administrative Officer.

Peter Simmons has left the organization after less than five months on the job. He was hired in February.

Simmons is the latest high-ranking official to leave the municipality in the past year.

He took over from Interim CAO Tony Haddad. Haddad filled that spot after Director of Engineering and Public Works Antoinetta Giofo held the post for a short period after Susan Hirota. Hirota left after four weeks to take over as the Director of Legal and Clerk Services in Kingsville. Before her, John Miceli was the CAO for seven years. He left in August 2021.

That's five CAOs in less than a year, a fact Mayor Aldo DiCarlo said is not lost on him.

"Most of them were not intended to be permanent. We had some turnover, people who stepped up in senior administration at the town to keep the business going," he said. "They all had other work to do."

DiCarlo could not say why Simmons left but does not think the position will be vacant long. He said councillors would likely consider past applicants for the job.
