The Ontario Provincial Police were called to the scene around 2:25 p.m. Police say the man was swimming with friends when he failed to resurface.
The man was pulled from the water by civilian bystanders and life-saving measures were initiated.
Paramedics arrived and continued life-saving measures. He was taken to the hospital and later died.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
The annual Canada Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, from Wildwood Park to Kenwick Park.
