UPDATE: Six displaced in house fire near downtown core

Windsor Fire and Rescue said six people are looking for a place to stay after a house fire just west of the downtown area.

Crews were called shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday to the intersection of Janette Avenue and Elliott Street West.

When firefighters arrived, they found a home involved in flames.

The fire was declared out a few minutes after noon Friday.

An investigator spent several hours on the scene to determine how the fire happened.

The cause was undetermined, but the damage estimate was around $200,000. No injuries were reported.

Windsor police assisted firefighters at the scene. The intersection of Janette Avenue and Elliott Street West was still closed as of 4 p.m. Friday. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
