Charges laid after stolen vehicle crashes in LaSalle

A Markham man faces charges after a stolen vehicle was involved in a crash in LaSalle.

Around 3 a.m. on Friday, officers on patrol discovered a severely damaged Toyota Corolla about 10 metres off the roadway on Front Road near River Avenue.

The driver was still on the scene, but while speaking with the officers, he ran off and tried to hide.

Investigators demanded a breath sample from the man but he refused, which is a criminal offence.

Paramedics took the man to the hospital for assessment.

During their investigation, police discovered the car was stolen in the York Region, and the man was under a Judicial Release Order to stay home except for medical emergencies. His license was also suspended.

The man faces impaired driving, possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of driving under suspension charges.
