Sandpoint Beach reopened after bacteria retest

A Windsor-Essex beach closed earlier this week due to high levels of bacteria has been reopened.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit announced Friday that Sandpoint Beach in east Windsor is open again after the water was tested again this week for E.coli contamination. With bacteria counts below 200 following the retest, the beach is now considered completely safe for swimming.

Sandpoint Beach was closed after the health unit recorded an E.coli count of 2,000 during a Monday test, well above the safe level for swimming.

According to the latest beach testing results, all public beaches in Windsor-Essex are fully open with the exception of Mettawas Beach in Kingsville, which reported an elevated E.coli count that discourages swimming, though the rest of the beach is open.
