Standoff ends peacefully

A 66-year-old man is facing charges after an over 12-hour standoff with the Windsor Police Service.

Around 10 a.m. officers were called to a home on Wyandotte Street East near Jos Janisse Avenue for a dispute. A complainant told police the man who lived in the house was holding a knife and was making threats.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect retreated into the house with a knife. Officers set up a perimeter around the home and called the Windsor Police Emergency Services Unit and a negotiator for assistance.

Officers established contact with the suspect, who refused to leave the residence.

Around 11 p.m. the suspect exited the home and was arrested without incident.

A Windsor man is facing charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
