Police seize drugs in downtown arrest

The Windsor Police Services' Problem-Oriented Policing Unit seized over $17,000 worth of illegal drugs in downtown Windsor Wednesday.

The unit was deployed to the downtown area following higher-than-normal levels of violence earlier this month.

The officers witnessed a man loitering near the entrance of an apartment building on University Avenue East. Police discovered the man was not a resident of the building but had gained access to the building. When officers approached the suspect with tried to take off.

The man was arrested after a short chase. Officers seized 68.8 grams of crack cocaine, 48.3 g of powder cocaine, and 14.6 g of blue fentanyl. The drugs have an estimated street value of $17,550.

Police say the suspect is expected to be charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and engaging in prohibited activity.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
