UPDATE: Firefighters go "defensive" on Walker Road house fire

The Fire Prevention Officer with Windsor Fire and Rescue Services described efforts to extinguish a house fire on Walker Road as "surround and drown."

Mike Coste believes Walker Road between Ontario Street and Richmond Street won't likely reopen for at least three or four hours after the house went up in flames around 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

He said the fire was on the second floor.

When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out of the roof, and heavy smoke in the area.

Only after the fire is out can investigators look for the cause.

Coste was unsure how many, if any, people are displaced, and had no information if there were injuries.

Walker Road was closed for much of Wednesday. It was finally reopened shortly after 5 p.m.
