Essex candidate wishes to withdraw

A candidate in the upcoming election in Essex has given notice he wants to withdraw from the race.

On Tuesday, Town of Essex staff received a notice from Shawn Mulder, candidate for Ward 4, that he wishes to withdraw his candidacy.

Under the provisions of Section 36 (a) of the Municipal Elections Act, a candidate must withdraw their name in person no later than 2:00 p.m. on nomination day (August 19, 2022).  Because the withdrawal was not made within the deadline, Mulder's name will still appear on the election ballot.

The only other candidate running for Ward 4 is Rodney Hammond.

The municipal election is on October 24, 2022 with Advance Voting days on October 8, 12, 15, and 19.
