Spitfires edge Greyhounds in overtime on Thanksgiving Day

The Windsor Spitfires edged the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds 3-2 in overtime Monday afternoon at the WFCU Centre.

The two teams were both held scoreless in the first period. The Spitfires had 12 shots and the Greyhounds had 6.

The Spitfires took the lead in the second period with a goal by centerman Jacob Maillet. The Greyhounds evened the score halfway through the second period with a marker by forward Jordan D'Intino.

In the third period, Matthew Maggio scored just over five minutes in, snagging his second goal of the season, and putting the Spitfires ahead.

Halfway through the third period, the Greyhounds scored again on a powerplay and tied the game.

Alex Christopoulos was the hero in overtime with the decisive goal.  The win brings the Spitfires overall record to 3-0-1 on the season.

The Spitfires travel to Sarnia to play the Sting on Friday, October 14 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena, puck drops at 7:05 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
