Suspect arrested in sexual assault near U of W

Windsor police say a man has been charged after allegedly groping a woman this week near the University of Windsor.

Officers were called to the campus just before midnight Tuesday after a woman reported being assaulted. The victim told police that she was walking in the area of Wyandotte Street West near Randolph Avenue when she was grabbed from behind and touched inappropriately a half hour earlier.

The woman reportedly screamed and the suspect ran east on Wyandotte West.

Members of the Windsor police's Major Crime Unit worked jointly with the University of Windsor Campus Police and identified a 25-year-old male as the suspect. Windsor's Target Base Unit officers arrested the man Friday afternoon on charges related to sexual assault.

The allegations have not been proven in court.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who has experienced a similar incident, or who has information about the one this week, is urged to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4830. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
