Challenge issued to address food bank crisis

The executive director of the UHC-Hub of Opportunities has issued a challenge to all Windsor-Essex residents to address the crisis at local food banks.

June Muir says the food bank is facing an ongoing crisis of empty shelves with many more people accessing their services.

"Our lineups are long, and we only have so much food on our shelves. Food insecurity is on the rise. It's a very scary time for many families and individuals living throughout Windsor and Essex County," said Muir.

She says if everyone donated just five dollars, it would go a long way to feed everyone accessing the food bank.

"It's simple. You just have to go to UHC.ca and hit that donate button, and you'll help many individuals and families throughout Windsor and Essex County," said Muir.

The UHC is one of 15 food banks in the Windsor Essex Food Bank Association. Its east-end location on Cantelon Drive is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
