The Town of Tecumseh is getting funding from Queens Park to improve infrastructure in the new year.
The provincial government has provided the Town with $2,419,110 to renew infrastructure in 2023. The money comes from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF).
Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie, a former Tecumseh town councillor, said the funding is a continued effort to provide municipalities with the means to improve services.
"OCIF provided invaluable financial support for stormwater relief in the community during my time on Tecumseh Town Council," said Dowie in a media release. "I’m delighted that the Ontario Government values the sound asset management principles adopted over the last number of years by the Town of Tecumseh and is building support for municipalities working to improve our residents’ services."
In 2022, over $1.3-million was provided in OCIF funding to upgrade road quality and stormwater infrastructure on Tecumseh Road East between Regent Road and Lexham Gardens.
"Our government is continuing to provide stable funding to meet local infrastructure needs and provide support in response to pressures from inflation," said Ontario Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma. "By supporting key community infrastructure projects, we are helping to grow and build safer, more resilient communities for generations to come."
Over $400-million was made available to municipalities across Ontario through OCIF in 2022, double the amount allocated in 2021.
