Driver charged trying to avoid RIDE program

A 54-year-old LaSalle man won't be driving for the next while after police arrested a driver who tried to avoid a RIDE program on Thursday night.

Police said the man struck another vehicle while trying to perform a U-turn.

The man was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and exceeding over 80 mgs of alcohol.

LaSalle Police stopped 257 vehicles at RIDE program checks across the town. Only one roadside sobriety test was performed.

Police also cautioned drivers about burned-out headlights, expired license plates, seat belt infractions, and having insurance documents available.
