Public school board sets date to start first student census

Starting next Tuesday, the Greater Essex County District School Board will begin a census of its' student population.

The survey is the first of its kind, is voluntary, and should take about 20 minutes.

The board announced it was conducting a census this year in January.

Results will help board officials understand the experiences of its student population, reduce inequities, and better meet their needs. The Ministry of Education mandated the census, and it's part of the board's ongoing Equity Action Plan.

Parents of students in junior kindergarten to grade 8 and those in the STEPS program are encouraged to fill out the survey with their child at home. Students in grades 9 to 12 can complete it at school.

The census continues until May 12.
