County Council returns to remote meetings

No, it's not COVID-19 forcing Essex County Council to meet remotely. It's a lack of space.

County councillors plan to meet online Wednesday night while renovations continue at the Essex Civic Centre.

A statement from the County of Essex said there isn't enough room in council chambers for the public, councillors, and administrative staff to meet.

The renovations will expand the capacity of council chambers.

"We are making these adjustments with the public in mind and will continue meeting virtually while we make these improvements," said the statement.

County councillors met remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
