Grant pays for Kids First Kitchen

The Windsor Family Homes and Community Partnerships has unveiled its Kids First Kitchen, a life skills program for children, youth and adults.

It received a grant worth $149,200 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to create the educational kitchen and improve access to programs. It houses a food bank, recreation programs, and a children's day camp.

Those programs can expand thanks to the cash infusion.

"This wonderful organization has been supporting our community through social housing and programs designed to assist the underserved for years," said Windsor West MPP Lisa Gretzky at the unveiling.

The organization also used the money to update the exterior of its building and add a mural created by local artist, Derkz.

"The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated," said Executive Director Angela Yakonich. "The grant has allowed much-needed renovations to be made."

Last year, the Ontario Trillium Foundation invested over $110-million in 1,022 community projects and partnerships across the province.
