Windsor-Detroit Tunnel to briefly close this weekend

If you plan to cross the border this weekend, you might want to adjust your plans if you were thinking of using the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel.

The tunnel will close for the first Windsor-Detroit Emergency Response Scenario drill since the pandemic forced emergency officials to hold the exercise virtually.

It will close to travellers from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on May 7.

Operations Supervisor at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, Chris Abbott, said the Windsor Fire Rescue Services, Windsor Police, Windsor Transit, and the Canada Border Services Agency are participating on this side of the border. Officials in Detroit are holding their exercise on that end.

He said officials like to conduct the exercise before the summer travel season begins.
