Four local long-term care homes received funding from the provincial government to improve care in the facilities.
“We’re expanding specialized services and supports for long-term care residents in Windsor-Essex, so that people with complex needs get the care they need and deserve in the comfort of a home, instead of a hospital,” said John Jordan, parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care. “Our government is taking action to ensure Ontario’s seniors get the right care in the right place.”
The Village of Aspen Lake and the Village at St. Clair both received nearly $200,000 to purchase bariatric equipment, diagnostic equipment, and specialized equipment for wound care.
"Every single person that we're able to keep in the home and provide that support to is significant for them and I think there's significance for the healthcare system in terms of having different care points along the way," said Joanne Potts, vice president of operations west at Schlegel Villages.
Extendicare Southwood Lake and Brouillette Manor also received funding for diagnostic equipment.
In total, the region received $438,728 from the Local Priorities Fund operated by Ontario Health.
