Stiles supports striking workers

NDP Leader Marit Stiles and local union members rallied in support of striking Windsor Salt employees Friday afternoon.

Members of Unifor Local 240 and 1959 have been walking the picket line since February.

Stiles is calling on the Ford government to pressure Stone Canyon Industries to reach a fair agreement.

"I want to see [Doug Ford] saying to the company that he expects them to treat workers better, to treat them decently," said Stiles. "He's quick to make deals with employers on a whole bunch of other things, but when it comes to actually supporting workers, he's all talk."

The NDP is also calling on the government to pass anti-scab legislation.

"I think right here, on this line, you see what happens when scabs come in. It divides workers, it's designed to break the union, it's terrible for the workers here, and it just extends the whole strike," said Stiles.
