Firefighters busy in Windsor, Amherstburg Thursday

Fire crews in Windsor and Amherstburg worked to tackle fires in their respective municipalities Thursday evening.

Windsor Fire and Rescue said firefighters were called shortly before 4:30 p.m. to Glengarry Avenue near Caesars Windsor. The fire was under control as of 5 p.m.

Glengarry Avenue was closed in both directions near the scene.

Around 5 p.m., Amherstburg Fire crews responded to a house fire on Richmond Street near George Street. When crews arrived, there was heavy smoke. Two fire stations were on scene battling the fire.

Several hours later, shortly after 8:15 p.m., Windsor firefighters tweeted they were working on an upgraded fire in Walkerville. Crews responded to the fire at the U-Haul storage facility on Walker Road near Seminole Street. Fire officials confirmed the fire was out a short time later, and firefighters were beginning overhaul and ventilation of the scene.

There were no immediate reports of injuries at any of the scenes.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
