Local student off to National Spelling Bee

An eleven-year-old boy is representing the region next week at the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington D.C.

Isaac Brogan, a Grade 5 student from Maranatha Christian Academy won the regional competition earlier this year. He competed against 24 local school finalists.

"I'm feeling really excited and also quite nervous because I know that this is a really big competition," said Brogan.

Next week he'll compete alongside 228 students from across the United States, as well as parts of Canada, the Bahamas and Ghana.

Brogan said he's been preparing for the competition using computer applications like Spell Pundit and the Scripps Spelling Bee app made to train kids for spelling bees.

The competition runs from Tuesday, May 30- Thursday, June 1, 2023.
