Local United Way kicks off fundraising campaign for summer programs

Programs designed to keep Windsor-Essex families in contact with resources are about to begin.

The United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County has kicked off its fundraising efforts for summer programming.

The popular Summer Eats for Kids and Backpacks for Success programs are available to support children with nutrition, and prepare them for the return to school in September.

"The goal of our summer programs is to help families have access to nutritious foods during the summer months and to provide the supplies kids will need to succeed in the next school year," said United Way CEO Lorraine Goddard in a media release. "Demand for our summer food program nearly doubled last year. With the help of our generous donors, we hope to increase the amount raised for this year as the need continues to grow."
