Driver facing impaired charges after hit and run

Windsor police have charged a 19-year-old with impaired driving after a hit-and-run collision Sunday evening.

Officers were called to the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Queen Elizabeth Drive around 8 p.m. They found a Ford Escape flipped onto its side in a ditch and a second vehicle with damage to its rear corner.

After an investigation, officers determined the driver of the Ford Escape allegedly ran through a red light on Jefferson and struck the back end of the other vehicle. The driver of the Ford Escape took off and rolled the vehicle near the intersection of South Service Road East.

Officers reported smelling alcohol on the driver's breath. He was taken to police headquarters for further tests.

The driver was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and failing to stop at a collision.
