High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

The agency that oversees police has invoked its mandate after a 21-year-old man suffered serious injuries during an incident involving the Ontario Provincial Police in Lakeshore.The OPP had a heavy police presence on West Belle River Road between County Road 22 and County Road 42.The Special Investigations Unit said the OPP got a report about an erratic man on Monday afternoon and found him on West Belle River Road.Soon after, he ran at the officer with a weapon and took a gun from the police cruiser before fleeing.The man was rushed to the hospital after he was pulled from the river.Officers also found the gun.The SIU invokes its mandate whenever there is a sexual assault, injury, or fatality involving police.
