Two charged in grandparent scam

Ontario Provincial Police in Lakeshore charged two people with fraud while investigating a report of a "grandparent scam."

The grandparent scam, also known as the emergency scam, involves a person calling a potential victim while posing as or on behalf of a family member who is reportedly in police custody and needs money for bail.

On Friday, police arrested a 21-year-old and a 33-year-old in connection to the investigation. They are both facing charges of fraud over $5,000.

The OPP is asking anyone who has been contacted in a similar manner to call the police at 1-888-310-1122.
