Contract talks head to mediation

The owners of Windsor Salt and Unifor Locals 1959 and 240 are meeting with a mediator this week in an effort to end a strike that has lasted five months.

Around 250 employees of Windsor Salt have been on strike since February 17.

Unifor Local 240 President Jodi Nesbitt confirmed they are meeting with a non-binding mediator to resolve some outstanding issues.

The issue of contracting out work has been at the forefront of negotiations since the beginning of the strike.

The two sides had been meeting virtually since April however, the company issued a news release in June stating talks had collapsed.
