Roads, bridges and sidewalks subject of most complaints in Essex

Of all the complaints made to the Town of Essex within three months, almost a third were about the state of roads, bridges, and sidewalks.

Town councillors will get an update Monday night about the Report A Problem system.

The online portal has been open since March 2020, after it was approved the year before. It allows residents to report concerns immediately through their computers and mobile devices.

Between April 1 and June 30, the town received 436 submissions, and 99 of them were about roads, bridges and sidewalks.

The next most-cited complaint was about property standards, with 55, followed by submissions about the town's parks, playgrounds, Colchester Beach or Colchester Harbour.

Most of the complaints were resolved within two business weeks, although others, like property standards, take longer to resolve because staff need to investigate.

Other issues, like tree trimming and hydrant painting, are addressed seasonally.
