August housing sales inch upwards

Housing sales increased in Windsor and Essex County in August for the second month in a row.

After increasing 1.39 per cent in July, housing sales were up 3.33 per cent last month.

The increases may not sound like much, but they come after 15 consecutive months of sales in the negative territory.

A total of 434 properties changed hands compared to 420 in August 2022.

So far this year, sales are down 19.35 per cent.

The average price to buy a home in August was $561,585, up 6.45 per cent compared to the same month last year. The year to date figures show a drop of 12.48 per cent.

The Windsor Essex County Association of Realtors also said there were fewer listings compared to August 2022. Those were down 7.85 per cent.

At the time of the report, there were 1,498 properties on the market.
