Suspects confronted after theft in Tecumseh

Ontario Provincial Police are looking for suspects after a vehicle was broken into in Tecumseh.

Officers from the Tecumseh detachment were called to Heatherglen Drive at 12:50 a.m. Thursday on a report of people entering unlocked vehicles. One resident noticed an interior light on in their parked vehicle and went outside to investigate.

The resident caught three people going through a neighbour's car, confronted and began to chase them. The suspects fled the scene in a black SUV.

Police said one suspect carried a crowbar and what appeared to be a handgun. No one was injured.

Neighbours are asked to check security camera footage and give police a call if they see something unusual.

The OPP is also using this incident to remind people not to attempt to stop a thief themselves and to contact police immediately if they see something suspicious.

Anyone with information should call the Essex County OPP Crime Unit at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
