E.L.K. making investments for more reliable system

E.L.K. Energy is making investments to increase electrical reliability in Harrow and Essex.

"We've heard loud and clear from our rate payers and our users that they want more reliable power," said Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy, E.L.K. Energy Board Chair.

Smart grid technology switches will be installed so that if electricity goes out in one area of the town the load can be transferred.

Each switch will cost over $100,000 to purchase and install.

"We're going to have to start looking at rate increases going forward because current budgets have not been able to have these capital investments," said Bondy.

The first of the switches is slated to be installed in the spring of 2024.
