Windsor police officer charged with assault

An off-duty officer with the Windsor Police Service was charged with assault by the Ottawa Police Service over the weekend.

Windsor Police Sergeant Deler Bal was charged after an alleged physical altercation at a restaurant on September 23.

He has been charged with two counts of assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

The Windsor Police Service reports that Bal has been reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation.

Bal has been a member of the Windsor Police Service since 2016.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
