Charges laid in Belle River sexual assault

The Ontario Provincial Police has charged a 48-year-old Lakeshore man after a youth was sexually assaulted on Monday.

Police responded to a call in Belle River, where they learned the youth agreed to meet someone they met online in person.

As a result, Craig Andre Chartier is charged with sexual assault, luring a person under 16 using telecommunications, sexual interference, and invitation to sexual touching with someone under 16.

The suspect was held in custody until a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor, and the charges have not been proven in court.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
