Windsor's Festival of Flowers to support the Downtown Mission

A colourful celebration of flowers this weekend will help support one of Windsor-Essex's relief organizations.

The Hindu celebration of Bathukamma, also known as the Festival of Flowers, will be held Saturday evening at the Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre in Windsor.

Tickets are $20 each, with proceeds from the event benefitting the Downtown Mission. Kids under 8 are free.

According to a release from the Mission, the festival is being presented by Sai Monish Etikala, a student at Assumption College School. The evening will conclude with the submergence of the physical representation of the goddess Parvati.

"I wanted to support the Downtown Mission, which operates in our community, to help alleviate some of the pressure off struggling Windsorites," said Eitkala.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with the Hindi Temple and Cultural Centre located at 7007 Enterprise Way.
