Inquest into Tecumseh man's death scheduled

An inquest into the death of a Tecumseh man who was shot by an Ontario Provincial Police officer is scheduled for next month.

Derek Teskey, 48, died in the hospital on June 14, 2019, after being shot during an altercation with officers at his Tecumseh home.

Three OPP officers were also injured in the incident.

The Special Investigations Unit, the body responsible for investigating police officers involved in serious occurrences, found that the officer was not criminally responsible for the death.

The provincial inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding the case and make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last five days. It will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
