UPDATE: Pedestrian killed in Leamington crash

The Ontario Provincial Police say one person is dead following an early morning crash in Leamington.

Police and EMS were called shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday to Highway 77 north of Mersea Road 5.

When first responders arrived, they learned that a sedan travelling on Highway 77 struck a pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway had been closed all morning between County Road 18 and Mersea Road 5. It has since reopened.

No further details have been released and the victim has not been identified publicly.

The OPP is asking anyone who may have been in the area before the crash, and may have seen something unusual, to give them a call at 1-888-310-1122.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
