Store robbed by a man with an axe

An arrest was made after a store on Howard Avenue was robbed by a man with an axe Monday afternoon.

Employees told police a man entered the store and began loading merchandise into a duffel bag. When confronted, the individual waved a small axe to force them to back away.

He ran from the scene with the stolen items.

No one was physically hurt.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and members of the Problem Oriented Policing Unit found him on University Avenue.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with robbery with the threat of violence.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
