Simko-Hatfield retained as public school board chair

The Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) has chosen its leadership structure for the current school year.

At its annual organizational meeting Tuesday, board members chose to retain Gayle Simko-Hatfield as board chairperson. She is the Trustee for Windsor Wards 5, 6, 7, and 8.

"Students are and should be at the centre of everything we do as a school board," Simko-Hatfield said in remarks to her colleagues. "As caring, thoughtful individuals, trustees, along with senior administration, have great potential for meeting whatever challenges that come before us."

Christie Nelson, the Trustee for Windsor Wards 3, 4, and 10, was chosen as vice-chair.

The other appointments were rounded out by Windsor Ward 1, 2, and 9 Trustee Kim McKinley, who will chair the education committee. Amherstburg-LaSalle Trustee Ron LeClair will oversee the operations and finances committee.

The board's next public meeting is set for Tuesday, December 5.
