A Korean electric vehicle parts manufacturer is setting up its North American chain in Windsor.
Bobaek C&S is constructing a $35-million manufacturing facility that will employ 144 people when it is complete in 2024.
"Bobaek’s investment in Windsor-Essex as their first entry into the North American EV supply chain further solidifies our position as a global leader in manufacturing and next generation vehicle production. This investment adds to the region’s continued growth and economic prosperity and we are thrilled that Bobaek will play a major role within our automotive ecosystem," said Stephen MacKenzie, President and CEO of Invest WindsorEssex.
The Ontario government supported the investment with $1.5 million from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.
The facility will produce insulation panels and cell sheets needed for EV batteries.
The company's president, Jaehwa Moon, said this is only phase one of the project. Phase two has already been approved and is expected to be completed by 2025.
