UPDATE: Human remains found in Essex historical in nature

The Ontario Provincial Police has ended its investigation after an excavation crew found human remains in Colchester.

The crew found them around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

OPP officers secured the scene and called in the Regional Coroner's Officer and a Forensic Anthropologist.

On Wednesday, the anthropologist determined that the remains were human, but historical in nature.

Investigators believe that this is not the result of a criminal act. There is no threat to public safety.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
